What is the Building Safety Levy?
The Building Safety Levy funds building safety remediation in England. Liability depends on the development and exemptions, rather than an 18-metre height threshold.
Who does it affect?
Clients creating chargeable residential floorspace within major developments: generally 10 or more dwellings, or 30 or more student bedspaces, subject to exemptions.
Documentation required
Keep application details, floorspace calculations, exemption evidence and levy notices together for the collecting authority.
Non-compliance risks
The levy must be paid before completion or occupation, whichever happens first. Check the official guidance for the applicable process.
